…If It Weren’t For You Meddling Kids

I’ll admit that I haven’t watched much Scooby-Doo since I was a wee laddy, but, regardless, this awesome custom minifig by Cygnet completely caught my attention. Apparently, it’s his take on The Woodsman from 2010′s “Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare” that he’s built as an entry to this month’s Firestar Toys Scooby-Doo MiniFigure Design Battle. There’s actually quite a bit of skilled work going on here. First, there’s the eye for good combinations of minifig parts that work well to capture the essence of the character. Then, there’s a bit of creative digital manipulation to edit in some Playmobil parts—hair and hat, I believe. [NOTE: See correction in the comments section! Whoopsy!] Can’t forget about that custom “cape” for the character’s overcoat. All in all, that’s some good custom work. There’ve been a few of us AFOLs embracing Digital Minifig Customization, not just to get the purists’ pantalones in a pinch, but to continue to push the limits of what’s possible with LEGO. This is a great example where the tools are used well to serve the final creation. I dig it. Rooby-rooby-roo!!!

Thanks for the kudos on the fig and the mention of the contest!

One correction however…no Playmobile parts were used, this is 100% LEGO. The hair is Dastan’s and the hat is the standard cowboy’s. I digitally combined them and added a band of color around the base of the hat.

I tried adding a ‘leather’ texture to the hat too, but it’s difficult to see…
