That’s “Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla” for all the gaijin up in hurrrrrrrrr. Thanks to onosendai2600, I have an excuse to work obscure Japanese pop culture and Godzilla references into Ka-GO this morning. First off, you must click through the image above to see this thing au natural, because I just couldn’t resist giving the image the vintage film treatment above. If you haven’t guessed yet, I was weened on a steady diet of Godzilla / Gojira / ゴジラ, so a minifig homage to one of the funnest films of the series deserves your eyeballs, imho. If you’ve never had the pleasure of watching it or any of the films, here’s the rundown: Godzilla is a gigantic monster character that came out of post-war Japan who is the mutated result of the American weapons of mass destruction—two nuclear bombs to be specific—dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki…s/he actually serves as a metaphor for nuclear weapons in general. (What that means when Godzilla becomes a “good guy” sorta messes with one’s mind, so…nevermind.) In this installment, aliens send a robotic Mechagodzilla to Earth to mess with us humans. To quote the Alien Supreme Leader Kuronuma: “Damn Godzilla… You’re mistaken if you think your powers are a match for Mechagodzilla.” Havok ensues. This MOC takes supreme advantage of TLG’s awesome Series 6 Lizard Man head piece with a fine paint job combined with a http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=8683-7 body to create a fun little vignette. Good times.
